The Arts

The area around Tregiffian (Sennen, St Just, Penzance and St Ives) has been attracting artisits, musicians and writers since the late 19th Century, and there is no shortage of musical events and galleries to satisfy even the most cultured person. Among the best known galleries are the Tate St Ives and the nearby Barbara Hepworth Museum, both in St Ives. A little closer to home, in the nearby town of St Just there are around 10 art galleries, and the Penlee gallery in Penzance and the Newlyn Gallery are well worth a look.

For theatre, the unique Minack clifftop amphitheatre is an unforgettable experience on a summers evening, and the Acorn Theatre in Penzance puts on a variety of theatrical and musical productions, both in the theatre itself and in the open air theatre in Penlee Gardens. And in some years, in August, the recently revived Cornish mediaeval mystery play cycle, The Ordinalia, is performed in the open air in St Just, featuring over 100 actors and musicians.
